Carrig Energy manages full home energy upgrades from start to finish: the home survey, the SEAI grant application, the contractors and the final sign-off. Doing all the works together as one project brings the highest grant support, because SEAI grants each measure and the grants are added together.

Rates correct as of October 2026. SEAI sets the grant rates and changes them from time to time. No work can start before your grant is approved.

Grants for a full home upgrade

The grant for each measure your home needs is added together. Most homes need some, not all, of these.

On average, a full upgrade of a detached house now attracts around €28,000 in SEAI grants, including the new €2,000 boiler scrappage grant.

Higher grants for households on Department of Social Protection (DSP) payments

If someone in your home receives one of the DSP payments below, higher fixed grants apply to a full home upgrade carried out through SEAI’s Community Energy Grant. Carrig Energy is an SEAI-registered Community Project Coordinator and manages the application for you.

*From January 2027, as part of a full home upgrade with Carrig Energy: up to €9,000 for solar PV and battery together.

Only looking for solar panels and a battery? The €9,000 grant for solar on its own is paid directly by SEAI, and you apply to SEAI yourself. We can only include it when it forms part of a full home upgrade.

Source: SEAI Community Energy Grant guidelines (May 2026), energy poor homes rates, plus the boiler scrappage grant from October 2026. For a house, the heat pump, central heating, renewable heating bonus and boiler scrappage together come to €18,500.

Which homes qualify

  • Full home upgrade, insulation, windows and doors: home built and occupied before 2011.
  • Heat pump: home built and occupied before 2021.
  • Solar PV: home built and occupied before 2025.

The new BER scale

Since 24 May 2026, Building Energy Ratings use a simpler scale, in line with other EU countries. The old sub-bands (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3 and so on) are gone. The scale is now:

A0ABCDEFG

A0 is a new top rating for zero-emission homes that use no fossil fuels. A full home upgrade must now reach a B rating (previously B2). Read more about the new BER scale, and whether you need a new BER →

Low-cost loans

The Home Energy Upgrade Loan offers €5,000 to €75,000 at a reduced rate through participating banks and credit unions, for works done with a Community Project Coordinator or One Stop Shop.
